The first of the three Mercury Retrograde periods will conclude on Sunday, March 17, 2013, however the lingering effects can last until April 6th. This is because of something astrologers call a “shadow” effect. This effect is the result of the planet ‘retracing’ it’s steps back to the original degree of station at the point of when it went retrograde. For example, when we began this Mercury retrograde, Mercury was at 20 degrees in the astrological sign of Pisces. It then went retrograde, or began it’s appearance to “march backward” in the night sky, to the point of 5 degrees Pisces on March 17th.
