The first of the three Mercury Retrograde periods will conclude on Sunday, March 17, 2013, however the lingering effects can last until April 6th. This is because of something astrologers call a “shadow” effect. This effect is the result of the planet ‘retracing’ it’s steps back to the original degree of station at the point of when it went retrograde.

For example, when we began this Mercury retrograde, Mercury was at 20 degrees in the astrological sign of Pisces. It then went retrograde, or began it’s appearance to “march backward” in the night sky, to the point of 5 degrees Pisces on March 17th. It will then begin to appear to “move forward” again in the sky, and will reach 20 degrees Pisces again on April 6th, 2013. This time that it is regaining the ‘lost’ degrees is known as the “shadow” time. This is considered by astrologers as a time of lesser influence.

Most of us will be recovering from whatever happened during the past three weeks. It has been said that people born under the zodiac signs of Gemini and Virgo are the most affected by Mercury retrogrades because Mercury is their ruling planet. Yet, some do not consider Mercury retrograde times as negative as others. Some consider that while there are heightened levels of communication and the incidences of possible problems, it is also a good time to pay attention to how you communicate and glean information during that time. Some use the energy of Mercury retrograde to slow down and read the fine print, digest what is being said to you and contemplate and use your power of introspection.

The next Mercury retrograde will occurs from June 26 to July 20, 2013
