A reader asks why her candle isn’t bringing her man closer. We investigate why… Dear Jacqueline, I have been burning a candle for this guy that I am crazy about doesn’t seem to work! One week, he is close to me and acting like we are it, then the next week he is distant or can’t come see me for some reason. I think I am doing something wrong. Can you help me determine if this candle spell is going to work? Thanks! Stephanie * * * * * * * There are really four major things that occur when you try a candle spell and it doesn’t seem to work. Ruling out candles that were a ‘bad pour’, too much oil and herbs in the candle, being in a drafty area, the cat, your roommate or family member with a fear of fire – the list can go on and on. Here are more ‘magickal’ reasons for your unsuccessful candle spells. The first thing is to rule out the physical: something in your preparation caused you to do something wrong, either applying the oils without enough conviction, using the ‘wrong’ products or substituting something, you were not in the right ‘frame of mind’ or you had other factors (like a menstrual period) that was affecting your energy, or you are going about the wrong way to ‘fix’ the problem. This happens most of the time with new candle workers or people with little candle burning experience. A second reason for candle burning failure can be ‘overworking’ the spell (as I call it); this is akin to ‘obsessing’ about it to the point that your mind races with the thought of the outcome and you begin to talk about what you are doing to friends. You may begin to think, ‘Well, maybe if I had used THIS instead of THAT…’ or nit-picking your choices of products. This stress of over thinking your processing and activation of the candle will not only ‘drive you nuts’, but will also undo what you wanted to happen in the first place. You need to calm yourself and just DO IT; anoint the candle with your best intentions, use your spiritual products as you first thought would work and leave it be. You can ‘tweak’ the recipe after this candle is done. This type of candle failure is the most common with people who do candles for themselves. Another reason that your candle might be working willy-nilly (sometimes they do, sometimes they won’t) is you are under some opposition – either by a rival for his attentions or someone who has it out for YOU! Remember the old Staples’ Singers song, “Smiling Faces” (‘Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friends. Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within. (Can you dig it)”). You wouldn’t believe who is against you – your BBF, your Mom, Sister, the girl that works with you, HIS Mom, Sister, other females who want him. The list can be endless, but not to fret; just do your candle work and KEEP QUIET! On the weeks that the candles are acting funny, weak, going out, etc., just re do, bolster with a white candle, burn a second candle right up against the first – WHATEVER – to keep it going. Last but not least is maybe you are just not supposed to be with him. God and your Angels knows the end of your ‘story’ (life) and maybe this man might bring you unhappiness, strife or something even more evil – and God is telling you that ‘it just ain’t so’ when...

A reader writes: Hi Jacqueline, I have a question about what spell or spells I should use to get my ex-husband to pay child support. Here is a little more about the situation. I have a restraining order on my ex-husband, which he has violated many times. I have an open case with child support service and he is on locate status. I have some information on where he is living and that he may very well be working. The problem is that if I report it and child support services finds him and makes him pay I don’t want him coming after me or the children. He knows where I work, but not where I live. He has violent tendencies, this guy is really not right in the head. All I want is the child support for my children, so I can better provide for them and I want the ex-husband to stay far away from us and leave us alone. Thank you for your time and help. Remember, employers are required to report all employees wages in three month blocks of time. Not only that, does he have proof that maybe a detective didn’t find him? No, but of course, he will think it was you turning him in. Pity the poor fool because once you procreate then you pay until that child is 18 years old. Period. ‘Nuff said. Now, will he understand that, maybe not. He has ‘vendetta’ in his mind – you towards him and he towards getting you back. I, as a mother, have walked down this path and am still continuing to do so, so I know. One little bit of relief is that these dollar figures roll over each month WITH INTEREST, but that doesn’t help with the childrens’ needs right now. That’s OK with me, because I know he is dumb enough to ‘surface’ in about three years, when our last child turns 18, and then I will have a few years of Federal Income Tax being captured to reimburse me for all my efforts. Remember, you may wait for the money but you’ll get the money eventually. I was told by one representative that an elderly lady brought in a $65,000 check to the office, claiming ‘ it must have been a mistake’. They told her that her ex had sold his house, and since they had a lien on the property, captured her money before he got the final check. The clerk told me that the lady said her children were in their thirties and she didn’t know what to do with it. The clerk said she was told to go on a long vacation. The lady balked a bit but then was given the suggestion to spend a little but then set up college funds for the grandchildren. Obviously, the lady ‘made do’ or ‘got by’ with what she made on her own, but this was her money since she sacrificed for so many years while ex went on his merry way. Regarding the restraining order, you need to call the police EACH AND EVERY TIME he violates – and you had better not be luring him into a trap by calling him over. Once he has violated enough, harsher charges will be levied against him. Alert the security personnel at your place of employment and call the police – become a pest, if need be – if he comes...

Hi Jacqueline, HELP!!!!!!! I have a situation with a young lady interfering in my relationship. We have been burning “run devil run” candles and its been going pretty good. However, recently the candles have been turning black. Even the love candles we are burning are turning black. What else can we do? Renee The presence of black or soot on candles means that negativity or ‘evil’ is being burned off, if we rule out physics. Let’s tackle that one first. Provided that you are not ‘overdosing’ your candle with oil (3,5,7,9,11 or 13 drops being the ‘magic number’ of drops of oil into the top of your candle), then we are fine. It is when someone thinks, very much like laundry detergent, that ‘if one scoop is recommended, then two SURELY will get them clean’ is not, I repeat, IS NOT the way to go with condition or anointing oils. You could be creating your own recipe for negativity by using too much oil, thus creating the possibility of the candle putting itself out (too much oil and liquid wax in the well), but also the sooty residue of excess oil being burned off. Use only the magical number of drops (odd numbers listed above) and you should be fine. Now, with that out of the way, let’s talk spiritual.If the candle begins to be sooty towards the top of the glass, but clears out, then this is a POSITIVE sign that negativity is being ‘burned off’ and your Guardian Angel is working for your good by the end of the candle burn. There are also some other factors to take into account. How was the flame acting throughout the burn? Was it actively flipping and moving about? Was there popping or crackling noises? Was the flame low or looked like it was about to go out? Candle wax formations, coloring or sooty residue and the actions of the flames are all factors to consider when doing candle divination. It is an old tradition that when you see a candle that you are burning for a candle spell starting to turn black, you bolster it or give it support by anointing a white 7-day novena type vigil candle in glass with either Blessing Oil or even plain old Olive Oil to led support in your position in regards to your petition. Keep up the work and ‘whittle’ this pesky intruder down by bolstering your candles with a white one when you see it getting black and sooty. Good Luck! A reader comments: Okay. So I’m trying to figure this all out. Red, green, gold, pink – money – love – new beginning – which goes on what altar. I’m confused! I looked at the color directory and understand the basics but the combos escape me. Red, green and gold mean fast money? But don’t use St. Expedite cuz that is TOO fast. Mostly used for “Fast Luck”, “Run, Devil, Run” and “Reversible” candles, but can be used to bolster or ‘heat up’ any other candle burning for its’ purpose (i.e. A Green candle burning for money and a red candle to ‘make it hurry to you’.) Gold for riches, success and bright, golden light of clarity (“Open My Roads”, “King Solomon”, “Crown of Glory Success”, and “Cut and Clear” candle spells). Said to bring ‘golden showers of riches, fame and knowledge upon you’. Used by students and those taking career-type exams to advance in life. Also used for ‘road opening’ candle spells (when you think you have no opportunities ahead). Green for money, prosperity and riches. Can be used with gold or red candles (in a triangular pattern) for a triple strength money-riches-power drawing candle spell . Pink for romance and affection. This gets a little confusing.
