Jacqueline, I have been told to do a banishing spell with a black candle. I purchased a Yankee candle which is as near to black as I could get, it is supposed to burn for 6.5 days approx. I lit it just over 48 hours ago. It burned well until last night. It has started to soot, send puffs of smoke and the flame keeps dancing sometimes so low like it’s gonna go out. Up until last night it had burned all the wax, but then gas started to leave a ring of deposit around the edge of the jar. Before lighting it, I inscribed the name of the spirit I want to banish, into the top of the candle with a metal sterile hypodermic needle (I’m a nurse!). I have left the candle burning constantly but feel very uncomfortable with leaving it on 24hrs a day. Am I doing something wrong or is the spirit not wanting to leave? Please help Kate ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi Kate, I am going to answer your question in a minute but first I would like to use your letter as an example of what to do and not to do. This is in no way any means to offend or embarrass you, but it is a prime example of someone who is doing candle work without fully being informed about things. Before I start, let me lead into this blog post with a conversation I had about 4 months or so with a major manufacturer of spiritual supplies. I had forwarded to them a couple of e-mails that I had received asking me on how to use THEIR Candle Spell Kit, of which I had never used. I told them that I did not feel qualified to further explain the instructions in the package, but perhaps this was a friendly “heads up” to rewrite the copy for the everyday Jack or Jill to read. They responded that they get the same thing – they had recently gotten a call (no less!) from someone who bought “Chango Powder” and wanted to know how to use it. They told the caller to call the place they bought it at and the answer was that the place was no longer in business (maybe the caller had the product for some time before attempting to use it?). So you can see that spiritual workers and readers get questions about other spiritual workers spells all the time. We cannot always determine what was the other spiritual worker thinking when they prescribed that candle or magical practice, but we do our best. It is best ,dear readers, to go back to the person that prescribed the candle spell for clarification and questions. Now to your candle… Let me say this three times (old African story telling method of driving the message home) Any Black Candle Spell will always give the house a heavy atmosphere. Any Black Candle Spell will always give the house a heavy atmosphere. Any Black Candle Spell will always give the house a heavy atmosphere. This may not just be because of the Spirit you are talking about is hanging around. Black Candle Spells of any nature or for any reason is for cursing, damnation, revenge, reversing, D.U.M.E., take this you little %$(%$#), or any other type of candle spell where the outcome isn’t going to be good for the person. The atmosphere is FUNKY, DEPRESSING and just plain YUUUUCK! Now, ironically, I am wondering why this other spiritual worker suggested a black candle. Most traditions use a white candle to tell the Spirit to “follow the Light” (like the movie ‘Poltergeist’). Some Spirits are trapped...

Jacqueline, Many years ago, I prepared a honey jar spell. Can I use the same one for the same person or should I prepare a new one? Thank you for your help Becky ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes if the basic feelings are still the same. You can ‘re-work’ it. Here is an example. You meet Johnny and even if he is the ‘Leader of the Pack’, you love him so and want to be with him forever. You create a Honey Jar. You do your ‘thang’ with it and you get Johnny to park the motorcycle and put a ring on your finger. All is well in wedded bliss. Then, maybe after a car, home and a few little Johnnys running around, you fall into a ‘love rut’ and you want to rekindle that hot and heavy stuff going on in the back of your Daddy’s T-Bird (convertible, no less!). You take out your original items, rinse it off in running water, keep everything that you can (cinnamon stick, petition paper, lodestones, photo or lick of hair – whatever) and rinse the honey down the drain. Now re-write the petition paper, add new herbs, if necessary, maybe a fresh hair lock (nail clipping, soiled sexual fluid tissue) fresh honey and reseal. Please in fire-safe plate, cereal bowl or dish and burn candles as before. Voila! Just make sure you don’t want any more little Johnnnys running around! Now, if ya want to ‘kill tha bum’, don’t use it. If love is gone, and you got to start doing revenge work or child support candle work, take the original honey jar to the river, uncap, rinse in river water, undo everything (binding, strings, fish hooks) and release everything into the river (photos, lodestones, honey – all of it). Moving water carries it away (old tradition). Good question and Good...

What does it mean when the candles keeps going out when doing a spell, and there are no signs of the spell working and it has been six days that I started it? The spell is my full name and his, his d.o.b as well as mine and a heart around the names? What do you think I am doing wrong? (question edited for grammar) Melissa * * * * * * * I have written some past posts in regards to candles going out. These can be found in the archives of Free-Candle-Spells. I am hoping that you are not re-lighting the same candle, as it is a traditional belief that if and when the candle goes out, the spell is done. Apparently, it is going out before the candle has burned all the way down to the end. Given that there is no gale force winds or kittens and kiddies around to bother the candle, the candle going out means that the spell is not going well. If you want to continue doing this spell, you need to start over fresh with a new candle, doing proper cleaning, incensing (in some beliefs) anointing with condition oil, praying over and caring for it like it is a tender infant. Your cost for the re-do? A few bucks for the candle and some more of your time. You did not perform the candle spell correctly. There are different methodologies in writing the petition paper and many examples of love candle burning spells, so I will leave it to you to research different ways to create a good petition paper. When speaking in regards of time, some candle spells show signsof success instantaneously and some take some time to get around to it. The old adage, “Three Days, Three Weeks, Three Months” is a guideline that each individual needs to determine and set in their own minds and hearts. Given that even tough you have not allowed some time for this to work and especially that the candle keeps going out ( the ‘s’ in candles tells me this has happened more than once), this does not bode well for success. I think more importantly, the writing is on the wall – this my not be the love match that is good for you. Like chocolate, it is so good to our taste buds but bad for our waistlines; so goes love matches sometimes. You might think that they are “the One”, but the Universe does not think so, and only with time will you realize that they aren’t. You may be attracted to a certain type of man – race, lifestyle, etc, but in the end, it might come back to bite you. About the same time, you have chased off less-than-devilishly-handsome-but-would-die-to-be-your-man types that were a good thing for you and would ‘go the distance’ in a relationship. Better to ask God, the Angels, the Saints and the Universe to bring you the type of relationship that you need, not necessarily what you want. Good Luck!...

Hi Jacqueline! I love your site and I’m learning a lot from it. I have a question regarding Saints, can you assign more than one job to a saint at the same time? Or is it better to do it one at a time. Thanks! Chris ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The petitions of the Saints, Guardian Angels and associated Heavenly Beings is one that has been in existence since the early beginnings of the Church. Even though there are certain Saints and Holy Ones associated with professions and times of need, you may set up an altar to any and all Heavenly Deities that you feel comfortable with petitioning for your own specific need. They like the attention you give them with vases of flowers, candles and some go so far as to place sweets, tobacco, water, rum or whiskey and other items considered to attract the Saints. Here is a shot of my All Saints Altar with petition candles being burned for clients: On my altar, I have St. Expedite, Our Lady of Fatima, Infant of Prague, Our Lady of Grace (sometimes known as ‘La Milegrosa’), St. Martn de Porres, La Caridad de Cobre (‘Our Lady of Charity’), Archangel Uriel, a second small St. expedite (in a different pose), a framed portrait of St. Anne and a statue of Marie LaVeau (as it was told to...
